Firstly, I would like to thank you for all your comments to my previous post. You've helped me a lot with the subject about the age :))

Today I'd like to explain you that, some weeks ago, I started taking my first steps with my sewing machine with a simple project.

I wanted to make a big and square basket (and I emphasize, square) for the bathroom, so I took some fabrics I'd bought long ago in Ikea and I kept busy all the afternoon.

By the way, if, like me, you don't have too much idea about sewing machine, Chita Lou's courses on YouTube (in Spanish) helped me a lot.

I was noticing something strange and when I turned it, I saw that I'd made it rectangular!!! Please, don't ask, it's clear that maths are not my thing. But I decided to finish it as I was overcoming my fear of the sewing machine.

In the end, after some days wandering around my home with the basket and convincing myself to unstitch it, my sister came to visit me and she loved it as soon as she saw it -especially the orange fabric- so I was really delighted to give it to her.

In these photos you can see that she's using it beside her bed to put a little (orange) blanket. In the 3rd photo you can see the three patchwork (also orangey) cushions that I showed to you here, here and here. No doubt orange is her colour ;)

And I'm very pleased that it's useful to my sister... and this has made me think that what was a disaster for me, was fantastic for my sister. What would I do without my "true fans" that are usually my family and friends?

Pasad una buena semana!
Have a nice week!

Florencia / Florence

How time flies! It's been nearly one month since my last post! There have been some events during these weeks, in order: my travel to Florence, my 40th (!!!) birthday and my father's surgery last week.

No doubt the most important thing is that my father is recovering well after undergoing surgery. It was quite simple, but, as he has a weak heart, it involved a high risk. So we're very happy now.

I felt quite strange on my 40th birthday. I don't know how to explain it, in fact I usually like my birthdays, but the fact of changing decade made me think about some matters that are maybe only considered every ten years, like if I am where I want to be, or if a new cycle begins, crisis, decline, etc. Luckily, those weird feelings only lasted that day, so I hope that this new decade is as (or more) interesting and full of experiences as the thirties.
Do you usually get affected when you change decade? If you are already 40, did you feel something different?

And now, Florence. I can only tell you that it has captivated us! It's a romantic and charming city, full of museums and Renaissance palaces. Although it is in fact very small -and so every day we could walk around the tourist attractions -, we always discovered a new spot through its maze-like streets.

The first day we went to visit the Galleria dell'Accademia, which is the home of Michelangelo's David. We bought the tickets online, so we saved a lot of time queueing. If you don't want to queue for hours, I'd recommend you to buy the tickets for this museum and also for the Uffizi online (www.firenzemusei.it). The booking fee for the reservation online is 4€ per ticket, but it's worth it.

As we stayed just 4 days in Florence, we just visited these two museums. They are well worth a visit as their art collections are exquisite. We will visit the other museums on our next visits.

Duomo

We also visited the Duomo. We went early in the morning so we didn't form a queue. So, we first climbed the 465 steps to get to the top of the dome. The views were really wonderful!

Here you can see a detail of the inside of the dome, and the beginning of the "descent".

A continuación, subimos al Campanile... ¡error!

Immediately later, we walked up the Campanile... big mistake! 414 steps more, so that meant that my legs were aching later! So, you can imagine, the next days I walked like a duck. My advice is to do some stretching before and after the climbing hehehe (no joke!). But, it was really worth it, the views of the dome were incredible.

Another gem of the city is the Ponte Vecchio, a medieval stone bridge full of shops (jeweller's).

One of the things that I really loved is that Florence is full of artisans and craft shops, especially in Oltrarno. Here you can see, for example, one of glass and one of puppets (wonderful).

Thank you for reading all the post! If you have been in Florence, I hope these photos have brought back good memories; and if you have never been there yet, I hope they have made you want to go :)))

Feliz semana!
